EIT Climate-KIC aims to provide the innovation, entrepreneurship, education and expert guidance needed to shape Europe's climate change agenda.
The Grantham Institute played a major role in a successful bid to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to establish a Climate "Knowledge and Innovation Community" (KIC).
Launched in 2010, EIT Climate-KIC aims to spark and deliver innovative and imaginative solutions to climate change via a dynamic alliance of European partners drawn from academia, industry and the public sector.
Working across Europe, EIT Climate-KIC organises its eduction, research and innovation activities around four broad themes:
- Measuring climate change and managing its drivers
- Water management
- Low-carbon cities
- Zero-carbon production
These are all areas where Imperial has crucial scientific and engineering excellence.
EIT Climate-KIC has five co-location centres that together support the wider community by hosting research, sponsoring collaboration, and incubating innovation. Additionally, six regional innovation communities led by public bodies, provide the test-beds and implementation opportunities for technology and policy.
