We currently have two posts which are an exciting opportunity to join the Library Services Scholarly Communications Management team. The team has a wide variety of responsibilities including implementing, promoting and managing open access (OA) services. As a member of a team dedicated to progressing the College’s OA responsibilities you will have knowledge of this area and an understanding of the wider policy and funding issues informing OA.

Duties and responsibilities


  • You will provide service implementation such as immediate and self-deposit open access

  • You will promote and raise awareness of OA services

  • You will provide overall OA service administration and support



  • Education to degree level, or equivalent qualifications or knowledge

  • A relevant professional qualification or equivalent knowledge

  • Competencies/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of open access and the academic publishing process and workflows

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Good research and analysis skills and experience in presenting management information

  • Excellent IT skills, with proven competence of using Excel

  • Ability to manipulate and present statistical data

  • Ability to prioritise and schedule workloads in the face of conflicting demands

  • Good team player, flexible and co-operative, coupled with high level of personal responsibility and initiative

  • Care and attention to detail and a methodical approach to work

  • Demonstrable knowledge of open access and the academic publishing process and workflows

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the HEFCE’s policy ‘Open Access in the post-2014 Research Excellence Framework’

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the use of bibliometrics/article level metrics in scholarly communication

Essential requirements

You will have good administrative experience, and strong communication and ICT skills to assist the team’s work with academic staff and researchers to publish their work on open access. You will produce statistical reports/analyses and contribute to the promotion and advocacy of OA events and initiatives.

Your organisational, presentational and interpersonal skills, methodical approach to work, and good eye for detail will be essential as part of a team committed providing an excellent service to customers. Previous experience of working in an academic environment, or for an open access service or repository, is desirable but not essential.
