ICE Civil Engineering Triennial Summit 2015 "Engineering projects, asset information and the smart city"
Professor Whyte was a presenter at the ICE Civil Engineering Triennial Summit 2015: Resilience and Growth for Future Cities, which was held in London on 8-9 December 2015 and brought together members of three global engineering institutions: the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); Canadian Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE) and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Her presentation was titled “Engineering projects, asset information and the smart city” - drawing on examples from her research on the digital delivery of major infrastructure projects such as the London 2012 Olympics and Crossrail to discuss how the unprecedented volumes of data present a big challenge to cities, utilities, asset owners and engineers who choose to go ‘smart.’ She discussed the data avalanche, links between data sets and communication with key stakeholders and emphasized the value of a systems approach, of learning from other sectors, of collaborative visualization and questioning of engineering data-sets.
The presentation will be made available online.
