This course was created by Professor Barbara Bain at St Mary’s Hospital, in collaboration with Dr Saad Abdalla and the late Professor Sunitha Wickramasinghe. It has been running twice a year for 30 years. It is now taught by Professor Barbara Bain and Dr Vishal Jayakar with a guest lecture from Dr Mark Layton.
It covers all aspects of peripheral blood and bone marrow morphology. The course is microscopy-based using peripheral blood and bone marrow films and a small number of trephine biopsy sections. All cases are reviewed collectively after the participants have made their own diagnoses.
There are also several key lectures, and photographs of all cases, as well as PowerPoint presentations of several lectures, are provided to the participants for the purposes of private study after the course.
