Enterence to the SectionMaterials was formed in 2019 and is a new Section in the Department. We benefit from world-leading research facilities in the UKCRIC National Centre for Infrastructure Materials, which forms a key part of the Section. This gives us unique capabilities in materials analysis, characterisation and testing. Our research focusses on the critically important materials required to deliver world leading sustainable infrastructure. This includes all the major categories of materials and we have ongoing research investigating metals, cement and concrete, glass and ceramics, plastics and biomaterials. Our research is addressing major global issues concerned with sustainability, the low-carbon economy, whole life cycle issues, materials circularity and long term durability and performance. We aim to complete highly innovative research and collaborate widely with other Sections in the Department, other Departments at Imperial, other UK universities and internationally.
