A top US computer scientist has joined Imperial on a prestigious fellowship to develop international links.

In an international collaboration, Professor David Kotz will be Imperial’s Royal Society Wolfson Visiting Fellow for the academic year 2025-26.

Professor Kotz is an expert on a range of security and privacy challenges involving smart homes, wireless networks, and pervasive computing. He joins Imperial in our Department of Computing, based in the lab of Professor Hamed Haddadi.

Professor Kotz is the Pat and John Rosenwald Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College in the United States. In addition to his extensive record of research and teaching as a tenured member of the Dartmouth faculty, he has served more than two decades in administrative roles as Provost, Associate Dean, and centre director. He has previously held visiting professorships at ETH Zürich and the Indian Institute of Science.

Royal Society Wolfson Visiting Fellowships aim to enable UK universities and research institutions to attract outstanding international researchers in key strategic areas to the UK from overseas, enabling the Visiting Fellow and the host UK organisation to share ideas and develop ongoing collaborative research links.

On joining the Imperial community, Professor Kotz said: “I’m grateful to the Royal Society, to Imperial College, and to Professor Haddadi for the opportunity to spend a year learning from scholars at Imperial and across the U.K.”

“Dave Kotz has long been an innovative researcher, a highly respected mentor, and a collaborative leader,” says Dartmouth President Sian Leah Beilock. “This recognition from the Royal Society and Imperial College will benefit both of our institutions and our two nations as we consider how to harness increasingly ubiquitous technologies for good while balancing privacy and other challenges.”
