Nearly five decades of Computing alumni reunited for a special evening at the Royal Geographical Society. As graduates from 1976 to 2025 came together to reconnect, stories of friendships, careers and experiences shaped by the Department of Computing were shared across generations.
The Department of Computing at Imperial College London welcomed alumni back to campus for a dedicated alumni evening on 13 May 2026, hosted at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London.
The event brought together around 300 alumni from across almost five decades of the Department’s history, with graduates spanning the classes of 1976 to 2025. Attendees included former undergraduates, MSc graduates, and PhD researchers, reflecting the breadth and diversity of the Department’s academic community.
The evening was a powerful reminder that Computing at Imperial is a lifelong community, shaped by its alumni, students, and staff, united by a shared commitment to the future of the discipline." Dr Konstantinos Gkoutzis Director of Student Experience, Exchange Students Coordinator
The evening provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with one another, meet recent graduates and engage with past and current members of staff. Conversations throughout the event highlighted the many ways in which alumni have applied their Computing education across a wide range of sectors, including industry, academia and government. Alumni also shared reflections on how their time at Imperial helped shape their professional journeys and contributions to the digital and technology-driven world.
Guests were welcomed with drinks and canapés, accompanied by DJ-curated music throughout the evening. The event also offered space to reflect on the Department’s past and present, while looking ahead to future opportunities for alumni engagement and collaboration.

Commenting on the evening, Dr Konstantinos Gkoutzis, Director of Student Experience in the Department of Computing and event organiser, said: “It was a joy to see so many alumni reconnect with the Department and with each other. The evening was a powerful reminder that Computing at Imperial is a lifelong community, shaped by its alumni, students, and staff, united by a shared commitment to the future of the discipline.”

Professor William Knottenbelt, Deputy Head for External Engagement in the Department, added: “Bringing together alumni spanning five decades to reflect on the Department’s past, present, and future was a powerful moment. The Royal Geographical Society was a particularly fitting venue, reminding us that our community continues to push the frontiers of technology every day. This event has laid strong foundations for future alumni activity within the Department.”
The alumni evening forms part of the Department of Computing’s ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships with its global alumni community.
