Recognition for the Women in Mech Eng society

The department’s Women in Mech Eng society is gaining recognition for its excellent outreach work.

The society was shortlisted for Engineering Student Society of the Year 2026 in the Engineering Talent Awards, as well as for the Stem Awards, the category ‘STEM Women Society Impact’.

These are some photos taken from the photoshoot for celebrating engagement. It would also be great if they could be added to WiME website if possible, I know it currently have temporary photos. Unfortunately, we did not get the stem awards, the engineering talent awards ceremony is in October so we will find out then. We were finalists for both for the outreach work Wime has been doing.

This past academic year, the society organised and volunteered at 22 outreach events reaching an estimate of 1,600 students.

Mary Sowter said: "It is only the second year running of our outreach society but we have endeavoured to improve, with a key aim to reach more students from low socio-economic backgrounds. This year we worked closely with the Inspire charity to achieve this, with 95% of our events attended by students from state schools.

Our volunteers have come from further than mechanical engineering as well, having volunteers from across all of Imperial's engineering departments and physics for both undergraduates and postgraduates."
