Dr Jack Houghton wins oral presentation prize at the BSPR annual scientific meeting 2026

Congratulations to Jack, who was awarded runner-up oral presentation prize at the recent British Society for Proteome Research Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 help at the Wellcome Genome Centre Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge.

Jack’s presentation introduced SAILS, a new class of molecular reagents designed to unlock high-throughput chemoproteomics. Traditional chemical proteomic methods rely on time-consuming, offline enrichment workflows that limit the scale of data-intensive drug discovery. To overcome this bottleneck, Jack and colleagues in the Tate and Long groups invented SAILS, which act as ion mobility–m/z modulators. Once attached to their targets, they shift covalently labelled peptides into sparsely populated regions of ion mobility space during trapped ion mobility mass spectrometry. This new platform has the potential to scale chemical proteomics experiments from hundreds of samples to thousands, generating the massive functional datasets required for data-driven discovery.
