For Researchers
The COSMOS study is one of the largest and longest-running research projects examining the potential health effects of mobile phone use. With a rich dataset from over 100,000 participants across the UK, UK COSMOS provides a unique resource for researchers interested in the relationships between mobile technology and health outcomes.
We welcome collaborations with researchers and institutions who wish to take advantage of UK COSMOS data for high-quality scientific studies. Whether your focus is epidemiology, public health, technology exposure, or related fields, our dataset offers critical insights to support robust research.
For MSc and PhD students interested in environmental and public health research, the UK COSMOS study provides an extensive, longitudinal dataset. Baseline data were collected in 2009–2012, with a follow-up survey in 2017, covering a wide range of health, lifestyle, and environmental factors, and with a further survey to be undertaken in 2026.
The dataset includes:
- Lifestyle factors: alcohol consumption, smoking, diet, and physical activity
- Health measures: general well-being, sleep, stress, headaches, reproductive health and mental health
- Environmental factors: noise, light, and social environment
- Linked data: health registry records and mobile phone traffic data (with participant consent) for objective exposure assessment
Researchers interested in data access or collaboration should email the study team at ukcosmos@imperial.ac.uk. Applications for data access will be reviewed and approved by our Data Access Committee, to make sure the proposed research is consistent with participant consents and for the general good. Data Dictionaries and the Data Transfer Request Form will then be provided upon request.
