Dr Sabita Uthaya, who became Director of the Neonatal Update in 2022, has been instrumental in the organisation and delivery of this event for over 20 years. Her research focusses on neonatal nutrition and its long-term health outcomes for premature babies. 

Currently, she leads the BASE Trial, a large multi-centre study investigating the use of sodium bicarbonate in premature infants and is co-investigator of the COLLABORATE trial of human donor milk, preterm formula and fortifier in extremely preterm infants.
