The Tate group develops novel chemical biology technologies to enable drug discovery, collaborates widely to apply these tools to identify actionable targets in disease, and translates our findings toward clinical development. The three key areas of focus in our group include:

Research

Chemical biology and drug discovery:

covalent ligand discovery, identification and functional prioritisation of ligandable amino acids, activity-based probes (ABPs), activity-based protein profiling, photoaffinity probes, drug target identification and validation, medicinal chemistry.

Proteomics and post-translational modification (PTM)

new technologies for proteome-wide identification of PTMs, chemical genetic approaches for enzyme substrate identification (e.g. steric complementation), proximity labelling, interactomics, protein lipidation (myristoylation, palmitoylation, prenylation…), novel drug target identification and drug discovery against PTM pathways in cancer, inflammation and infectious disease.

Targeted and proximity-induced pharmacology

targeted protein degradation, PROTACs, molecular glue discovery, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), photopharmacology.
