Thermophysics

The Thermophysics Laboratory, of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, is a world leading centre for the measurement, interpretation and prediction of thermophysical properties and phase behaviour of complex systems.

We specialise in precision experimental measurements of fluid properties over wide ranges of temperature, pressure and chemical composition. These measurements are often carried out in specialised instruments designed and constructed by ourselves, offering unique capabilities not achievable with commercially-available equipment.

The experimental programme is coupled with advanced molecular modelling aimed at developing fundamental understanding of the dependence of bulk thermophysical properties on molecular structure and interactions, and with engineering modelling approaches aimed at solving practical problems in industry and commerce. In addition to carrying out basic research, we offer thermophysical-property measurement and modelling services to industry.
