Medicinal inorganic chemistry, chemical biology, molecular recognition and molecular imaging
Welcome to the Vilar Research Group. Our research focusses on developing novel tools and technologies to interrogate biological systems. Our work spans several areas such as medicinal inorganic chemistry, chemical biology, molecular recognition and molecular imaging. Some of the areas of interest include: (i) investigating the biological functions of non-canonical nucleic acids' structures (e.g. G-quadruplex and triplex DNA & RNA); (ii) the biological role metal ions play in living systems; (iii) the development of metal-based systems as potential anticancer and antibacterial drugs; (iv) development of molecular tools for the detection and removal of environmentally harmful species from water (e.g. arsenic, cyanide and lead).
