The contentious issue of ‘collaboration’ during World War 2 is still a matter of historical debate. Taking examples from events in France, Italy and Greece I will illustrate how brutal, arbitrary justice and political prejudice failed to resolve the problem. Although some transparency is possible with the passage of time, many of those involved prefer to leave the memory of their wartime activities undisturbed.
