The Department is delighted to welcome Professor John Tsamopoulos (Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras) as a Visiting Nelder Fellow in the Mathematics Department, the Centre for Computational Methods in Science and Engineering, and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College. Professor Tsamopoulos will be delivering a series of lectures as follows.
Thursday 19th May, 10am-12noon, Huxley 139
Lecture 1: Introduction to complex fluids.
This is an introductory lecture suitable for a general audience and will present fluid dynamics phenomena of complex fluids along with different models.
Friday 20th May, 4pm-5pm, Huxley 139
Lecture 2: (Part of the Fluid Dynamics seminar series): Motion of rigid and deformable particles in complex fluids
Resolving two old and intriguing problems.
Tuesday 24th May, 10am-12noon, Huxley 139
Lecture 3: Thin film flow over sharp topography
I. Transient coating flow leading to Cassie, Wenzel and intermediate states
II. Steady flow with and without air inclusions inside the trench
Thursday 26th May, 10am-12noon, Huxley 139
Presentations by IC researchers. Discussion and collaborative plans.
