Emigre Sculptors in Britain 1540-2016 is a two day academic conference organised by Dr Michael Paraskos, from Imperial College’s Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication, with colleagues from the University of Leeds; City and Guilds of London Art School; and the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (PMSA) on 26 and 27 May 2016. The conference will be asking the deceptively simply question, what impact have emigre sculptors had on the British art world? But equally important for those attending the conference is the corollary question, what impact did Britain have on emigre sculptors? With leading academics from across the world attending the event, the conference promises to be a lively, exciting and perhaps even controversial gathering at a time when questions of identity, culture and migration are so much in the news.
