Abstract:
In 1976 Jackiw and Rebbi showed that quantising a Dirac field coupled to a topological soliton may yield states with half-integer fermion number. Their argument is based on the existence of isolated zero-energy solutions of the classical Dirac equation. Jackiw and Rebbi constructed such zero-energy solutions for fermions coupled to Yang-Mills-Higgs monopoles. In this seminar charge fractionalisation in the presence of abelian magnetic monopoles is considered.
