Held at Imperial College, London and presented by Michael Broadbent, the presentation will set out to share a range of practical and theoretical experiences of a Chartered Engineer in the work associated with Disaster Management.

This may raise a number of controversial issues that involve the engineering profession, recognising that at the current time it is generally accepted there is no systematic approach to Disaster Risk Management, specifically to the planning for; the preparation for; and the response to emergencies that lead to disasters. The loss of strategic assets from structural failures in highway bridges, railway bridges, airport infrastructure, inland waterway structures and facilities at seaports represent major consequences to complex operational systems that the modern mobile workforce is highly dependent upon.
