In line with the HKSAR 2007 Policy Address, the Hong  Kong Government has announced investment on 10 Mega Infrastructure Projects, e.g. Guangzhou-Shenzhen-HK Express Rail Link, HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, etc.  The HK Express Rail Link alone is a £5.47bn project. See flyer for further information.

Speaker bios:

Thomas Lai – Current UK Chapter Chair. Civil engineer. He worked for over 20 years in HK on the Mass Transit Railway. Retired to UK in late 1990s.

Ben Pape – Founder Chair of UK Chapter. Electrical engineer, early career with Pirelli cables. Senior civil servant in Dept. of Trade and Industry for many years. Now retired but works almost full-time as a consultant to UKTI on China projects.

Francis Budge – UK Chapter Vice Chair. A civil engineer with nearly 44 years working experience, having been inFrancis Budgevolved in water and wastewater projects in the UK and around the world, including Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Brazil, Colombia, Pakistan, Hong Kong and China. For the last 29 years I have worked for Halcrow, now part of CH2M Hill, and my current projects involve advising three consortia of banks about the technical aspects of their investments in sewerage and wastewater treatment plants in Scotland and assisting in the preparation of a highway design manual for Qatar.
I am a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) and Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (FCIWEM). I have been a member of the HKIE for some 23 years. .
