The 2nd Anniversary of the London Declaration Event
His Excellency John A. Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana (2001-2009) and Global Network NTD Special Envoy, will address the Group on progress realised this year, including expanded political commitments in Africa – nationally, regionally and worldwide. He will also address what can be done to accelerate successful NTD control and elimination, including mobilising resources and strengthening cross-sector partnerships.
Professor David Schellenberg will introduce a 17 minute film on the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium, MCDC, which is engaged in the PhD training programmes in five African universities. This work is funded by the Wellcome Trust with co-funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It is increasingly recognised as a model for institutional and scientific research capacity development.
Dr Adrian Hopkins, Director of the Mectizan Donation Programme, and Dr. Paul Robinson, Medical Affairs Director, will address the Group on Merck’s work in facilitating the distribution of Mectizan and the challenges it has to overcome.
