On 15th October 2013, Imperial College London hosted the annual Ada Lovelace day. Dr Simon Foster from the Physics Department at Imperial College London was asked to present live demonstrations to the public at this event.

Simon is the Outreach Officer in the Physics Department at Imperial College London. He is a qualified rocket scientist and his research focuses on Solar-terrestrial Physics, specialising in solar variability and climate change. 

Ada Lovelace day is an annual celebration of woman in science, technology, Engineering and Maths. The event is named after Ada Lovelace, who is widely regarded as the first computer programmer. This year, Imperial College London hosted the event. 

An audience of over 500 people came to see the spectacle, including school groups. Students and researchers from Imperial’s physics department took part in the event by running live demonstrations to give the audience a taste of their research.
