This talk is intended as an accessible introduction to symplectic geometry, giving a survey of the local theory, up to Weinstein’s tubular neighbourhood theorem, the overall aim of the talk will be to sketch a proof of Luttinger’s theorem on the non-existence of spin knot tori in C^n, though this may well be an over-ambitious goal.
