Abstract: We show that certain explicit non-linear Poisson formulas, which were implied by the principle of Langlands functoriality, let us construct kernels for automorphic transfers. Therefore there is an equivalence between the principle of functoriality and the these non-linear Poisson formulas.
Laurent Lafforgue is a permanent professor of mathematics at the IHES since 2000. He has made outstanding contributions to the Langlands’ program in the fields of number theory and analysis, and in particular proved the Langlands correspondence for function fields. His proof is probably the most monumental effort by an individual mathematician. He received the Clay Research Award in 2000 and in 2002 at the 24th International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing, China he received the Fields Medal together with Vladimir Voevodsky.
