On 27th March 2013, staff from the Physics Department at Imperial College London took part in a Revision Road Show organised by Oxford University Press.

The ‘Road Shows’ are aimed at AS and A2 students and take the form of a series of presentations and demonstrations. Both students and teachers attend the events. Over 150 students attended the event and found it helped them to focus on their upcoming exams.

Dr Bob Forsyth, Admissions Tutor for the Physics Department at Imperial College London, presented talks to students about applying to study physics at University. His talks focused on the various degree courses that the Physics Department offers, what studying at Imperial College London is like and information about where a Physics degree can lead. Following Dr Forsyth’s talk, Undergraduate students from the Physics Department ran a Q&A session so that prospective students had the chance to put questions to current Undergraduates.

Dr Vijay Tymms, a senior teaching fellow in the Physics Department, ran a Continuing Professional Development workshop for physics teachers. Through his workshop, he aimed to provide the attendees with some inspiration and confidence in teaching physics laboratory classes and performing classroom demonstrations. Dr Tymms showed demos which are popular with students, simple to carry out, relate the syllabus to cutting edge research and probably won’t have been used in the classroom before.
