On 23rd November 2012, Dr Simon Foster from Imperial College London, ran a practical workshop for students on the INSPIRE teacher training scheme.

The INSPIRE (Innovative Scheme for Postgraduates IN Research and Education) scheme was set up at Imperial college to train top postgraduate scientists to teach science in schools and enthuse the next generation of scientists.

The INSPIRE Teachers Workshop was run by Dr Simon Foster; Outreach Officer in the Physics Department at Imperial College London. The day included a variety of practical activities for the INSPIRE trainee teachers to take part in. Dr Foster showed the students a number of hands on demonstrations that will not have been seen in schools before, helping to expand the students skills and encouraging them to deliver lessons which create the ‘wow factor’.

Dr Foster is a former graduate of the INSPIRE scheme and was able to share many hints and tips from his experiences teaching, with the current students.
