A retreat is a time set aside for reflection, meditation or prayer. Often retreats are held in quiet rural locations which can be more peaceful than the fast paced urban environment in which many of us live. Street Retreat gives us a chance to practice silence and solitude in the busyness of the city. Afterall this is the place where many of us spend our daily lives.
The day starts with registration and hot drinks from 1pm. After a practical introduction to the afternoon we will start with a guided meditation. The rest of the afternoon is then free for you to use as you wish. We will provide ideas and some suggestions of how you might spend your time – and of course some local maps!
We gather together at 4pm for meditation to review the experience. What gave us life and energy in this experience? What was unsettling, draining of energy or difficult? There will also be a chance to reflect with others on the time you spent and to find out what happened. There will be some worship as well. At 5pm we will serve some hot soup and the event ends at 5pm. It’s a different way to spend time in the city.
