Professor Adrian Sutton was invited to present at Phoenix High School’s graduation ceremony by Sir William Atkinson. The graduation ceremony was for year 11 students, who had just taken their GCSE examinations.
During his talk, Professor Sutton told the students what it was like to study physics at university and spoke about his career history. Professor Sutton is a materials scientist at Imperial College London, who applies fundamental physics to understand and predict the structure and properties of materials of technological significance. He is one of the most highly cited materials scientists worldwide.
Professor Sutton’s talk outlined the various careers a Physics degree can lead to and he encouraged the students to pursue their ambitions. About 170 students, their parents and guardians, friends and relatives attended the graduation ceremony, along with staff from Phoenix High school.
