Abstract
The goal of this seminar is to present hybrid experimental – computational methods to quantify the local constitutive and fracture properties of soft tissues in situ. To this end, we combine medical-imaging techniques or digital image correlation methods with a custom inverse method to infer, using nonlinear regression, the best-fit material parameters within a postulated form of the stored energy function. Diverse applications will be noted, but the method will be illustrated primarily for results from arteries. Extension of the approach to medical-imaging based data will also be discussed for characterizing the response of the human leg under elastic compression.
