Design London STIR Lecture: Self-made things – shapes and forms in nature
In this lecture Sir Jonathan Miller will reflect on the biology of design – why do we have faces, what are the forces that shape our symmetry and the patterns we see in nature?
From Beyond the Fringe in 1960, his ground breaking Body in Question for the BBC, to his more recent productions of Saint Matthew’s Passion in New York and La Boheme in London, Sir Jonathan Miller has been stirring together the world of science, music, and popular culture for almost half a century. Trained as a neurologist at Cambridge, he took the stage revue Beyond the Fringe to the Edinburgh Festival and then to Broadway. In 2004, he wrote and presented Atheism: A Rough History of Disbelief for the BBC where he explored the history of atheism in the world and the roots of his own atheism. He has combined a glittering international career as an award winning theatre and opera director, medical consultant, sculptor, satirist and writer. He was knighted in 2003 for his services to the arts.
