Dr Christopher D Lucas is an MRC Clinician Scientist, Honorary Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and Principal Investigator at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair, University of Edinburgh. He undertook his PhD under the Wellcome-trust funded ECAT scheme, focusing on mechanisms of cell death and impacts upon tissue inflammation. Upon completion of clinical training and award of a Wellcome Career Development Award he moved to Kodi Ravichandran’s lab at the University of Virginia, USA, to study cell death in tissue regeneration and repair in the injured lung. In 2020 he moved back to the University of Edinburgh to establish his own research group, focusing on macrophage-epithelial interactions and how these processes regulate tissue biology and epithelial cell regeneration after lung injury.
Dr Lucas will be visiting the NHLI department on Monday 6th November to give his seminar titled ‘dissecting macrophage regulation of lung epithelial regeneration.’
