A perspective projection of a dodecahedral tessellation in H3. Four dodecahedra meet at each edge, and eight meet at each vertex, like the cubes of a cubic tessellation in E3.

Title: Invariant Theory and the Moment Map

Speaker: Yichen Zhang

Abstract: This talk will be a very basic introduction to symplectic reduction and geometric invariant theory, emphasising explicit finite-dimensional examples from a differential-geometric viewpoint. Time permitting, we will outline some infinite-dimensional analogues and describe how these ideas heuristically link the existence of extremal objects in Kähler geometry to stability conditions in geometric invariant theory.

Some snacks will be provided before and after the talk.
