How are we building a sustainable energy future?

To celebrate 10 years of the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures, Energy Futures Lab is hosting a panel discussion and showcase of the energy research at Imperial College London.

Andy Hadland (Class of 2008-09)

Andy is currently heading up development at Arenko, a fast growing energy storage company that operates some of the first commercial live assets in the UK. An energy engineer by training, he has led a variety industrial and commercial projects; from energy efficiency through to biomass CHP. He was also part of Racing Green Endurance, a record-breaking team that designed and built an all-electric supercar, which then drove 26,000km from Alaska to Argentina.

Peny Panagiotakopoulou (Class of 2009-10)

Peny is a Market Modelling Manager in National Grid Ventures, being responsible for defining, building and analysing investment cases for interconnectors or distributed energy projects. She has experience in providing expert advice on GB and EU markets design, supporting regulatory and commercial engagements for project portfolio.

Iván Pineda (Class of 2009-10)

Iván Pineda is Director of Public Affairs at WindEurope, the leading renewable energy industry trade association in Brussels. He oversees WindEurope’s work on advocacy, business intelligence and membership. Iván has taken on various roles since joining WindEurope in 2011 including Grids and Market Analyst and Head of the Policy Analysis department.

Elena Giannakopoulou (Class of 2010-11)

Elena leads the Energy Economics team at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the clean energy division of Bloomberg LP. Elena’s team is focused on the long-term dynamics of the global energy transition and the competitiveness of power generating technologies. Elena is also the co-author of BNEF’s popular New Energy Outlook report.

There will be over 20 research groups from around the College campus demonstrating the work they do and on hand to answer questions about their research. The full list will be published here soon.

The Great Hall

The energy showcase will be held in The Great Hall from 17:00, this is in the Sherfield building (#20 on the campus map). The easiest way to get there is to enter the campus off Exhibition Road at the main entrance (near buildings #17 and 36). Cross the lobby and exit via the revolving doors out to the Dalby Court. On the opposite side of teh courtyard is a walkway (between builds #16 and 21). Follow this done to the entrance of the Sherfield Building on your left hand side. This is at the broken red line on the map that leads towards building 25. On your right hand side is a set of stairs leading down. The two entrances to The Great Hall are on each side of the top of the stairs and are clearly signposted.

Lecture Theatre 1, Department of Chemical Engineering

Lecture Theatre 1 in the Chemical Engineering Department is in building 14 on the campus map. The quickest way there is to enter the college from the main entrance on Exhibition Road (near building 36). Head through the building, across the large courtyard and along the long walkway past a bank of very large screens on your right hand side. The entrance to the Chemical Engineering Department is on your right, head through the automatic doors up two short flights of stairs and turn left, walk about 20 metres and the room is just in front of you on your right.
