There are several ways that you can get involved in the Imperial research software community:

  • Join our mailing list: Our mailman mailing list is a low-traffic list that we use to send out our monthly community newsletter and other information related to community events or related activities that may be of interest.
  • Join our Slack workspace: Our Imperial research software community Slack workspace is a great place to ask questions and get advice, help others, and keep up with the latest news and details of community events and activities. It also includes a number of channels focusing on specific research or technical areas of interest.
  • Come along to one of our (virtual) RSE tech talk & networking meet-up events: We hold events regularly and details of all our events are posted on the Events section of this web site and sent out via the RSE mailing list.
  • Volunteer to give a talk or tutorial: Are you passionate about a particular tool, language or development approach? Do you feel that it's not well understood by others and could change the way they work or enhance their research outputs? Come and tell us about it! There are regular opportunities to give short tech talks, often as part of our meetup sessions that include a couple of talks followed by drinks and networking (when in-person events return).
  • Host a monthly meet-up session: If you'd like to host one of our regular community sessions with a focus on software engineering in your domain, let us know.

The Research Software Community Organising Committee

Keeping our community running requires a variety of work. To support this we have a volunteer organising committee currently consisting of 6 people from a range of disciplinary backgrounds, from across the College's departments.

Committee members help to edit our monthly newsletters, run our weekly online RSE coffee get-togethers, keep web content up to date, organise community events and activities and contribute ideas and expertise in relation to research software policy and strategy.

We are currently looking for new organising committee members to help take the community forward. If this is something you are interested in, get in touch with the current committee members for a chat about what's involved.
