Amy McIntosh
Amy is a first year ICB CDT student and co-supervised by Prof. Ramon Vilar, Prof. Ed Tate and Dr David Hewings (Vertex Pharm. Ltd).
Amy graduated from the University of York with an MChem in Chemistry in 2019, completing her masters project on the synthesis of azido-ribitol to investigate the effect of ribitol supplementation for muscular dystrophy under the supervision of Dr Lianne Willems. She then worked as a synthetic medicinal chemist in the Innovative Targets Group at the Drug Discovery Unit in Dundee for 3 years, working on a variety of drug discovery campaigns from neurodegenerative diseases to cancer. Amy’s research project will focus on synthesising photoactivatable molecular probes to study RNA protein interactions to enhance RNA-targeted drug discovery.
Amy’s interests are organic synthesis and chemical biology where she can apply these to her project and future research in the field.
