Gem completed her MSci Biomedical Sciences degree at the University of Southampton, graduating with first class honours in 2021. In the summer of 2019, Gem was awarded a summer studentship from the Genetics Society which enabled her to research the implication of mgl-2 receptors in the nociception of C. elegans, under the supervision of Dr. James Dillon. During her masters year, Gem investigated the use of nucleobase analogues to improve the stability of antiparallel triplex formation, under the supervision of Dr. David Rusling.
Following on from her MSci degree, Gem has now joined Imperial College and the Di Antonio group as part of the ICB CDT. Gems research will focus on the interaction between G-quadruplex structures, PARP, and metabolism to overcome resistance to PARP inhibitors. This project encompasses Gems main research interests of nucleic acids and cancer research, and is co-supervised by Prof. Hector Keun.
Outside of the lab, Gem is an active person who loves to play netball, go on runs, cook, and socialise with friends.
