Development of a probabilistic wave loading model for offshore structural designs

Started: Oct 2019
Supervisor: Swan, C.

Description of Research

My PhD research seeks to develop a new model describing the statistics of the applied wave loadings. This work was motivated by the ocean environment which is characterised by increasing severity. The conventional offshore structure design method is a two-stage approach, involving identifying the wave and then the applied loading. Both of these stages are susceptible to statistical uncertainties, ultimately producing an arguable unreliable design. My research aims to eliminate some of the uncertainties by directly examine the statistics of the wave loadings.
