Functional Genomics Network
The Imperial Excellence in Functional Genomics Network builds a cohesive, multi-faculty community that bridges academic, clinical, and research domains.
About the network
Translating genomic data into meaningful clinical insights and outcomes remains one of the greatest challenges in modern biomedical research.
At Imperial London, expertise in computational biology, genetics, and clinical research thrives but often remains siloed. The Imperial Excellence in Functional Genomics Network unites these strengths across faculties to foster collaboration, streamline resources, and accelerate translating genetic discoveries into better patient care.

Our mission
- Connect experts across the College – From sequence analysis to therapeutic development, we foster collaboration among researchers working at every stage of the genomic research pipeline including clinicians, computational biologists, molecular biologists, bioengineers, chemists alike.
- Establish focused working groups – Targeting critical areas including but not limited to variant prioritisation, disease modelling, phenotyping, genome editing, and iPSC generation.
- Develop collaborative pipelines and shared platforms – Standardised assays, streamlined workflows, and accessible tools to enhance reproducibility and knowledge-sharing.
- Enable training opportunities – Workshops and other training opportunities to enhance the technical capabilities.
Through this unified effort, we aim to accelerate discoveries, improve diagnostics and therapeutics, and advance the future of precision medicine together.
