Hi, I am Sebastian! I joined the Principles of Biomolecular Systems group as a PhD researcher in October 2026 under the supervision of Dr Thomas Ouldridge. My research focuses on developing predictive models of nucleic acid strand displacement rates to support the rational design of complex networks and devices in nucleic acid nanotechnology. My project is part of the BioHYBRITE MSCA Doctoral Network, which brings together 15 doctoral researchers across leading European institutions in the field of hybrid DNA:RNA:protein nanotechnologies.
Before coming to Imperial, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at Graz University of Technology (Austria) and a Master’s degree in Physics at Lund University (Sweden). During my time in Lund, my research interests shifted towards biophysics. This led to a one-year thesis project on thermodynamic sampling of protein systems using Ising optimisation, supervised by Prof. Anders Irbäck.
Outside of research, I enjoy running, playing classical music on the piano and cooking.
