PEPR – Centre for Pulse EPR at Imperial College

About the facility

PEPR is an electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) facility located in the Molecular Sciences Research Hub (MSRH) on Imperial College’s White City campus.

The facility is supported by a £2.3M grant from the EPSRC and provides the tools to study spin-based phenomena in a wide range of science and engineering research questions encompassing catalysis, electronics and optoelectronics, biological chemistry, reaction mechanisms, solar fuels, (semi)artificial photosynthesis, battery research and magnetism, to name but a few.

PEPR offers a unique combination of state-of-the-art multifrequency pulsed EPR equipment, electrochemistry, photoexcitation setup and instrumental development.

Highlights of our equipment

  • High-sensitivity, home-built pulsed X-band spectrometer developed in collaboration with the LCN.
The instrument is equipped with an ultra-low-noise cryogenic probehead and superconducting microwave resonators to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio by up to 20× with respect to the standard equipment.
