The Sustainability Sandbox is our new initiative to support stronger operational sustainability practices across the whole of Imperial.
We aim to develop the skills, knowledge and talents of our academics and students - and feed these into our research and education on sustainability.
This whole-university initiative will draw on our campus operations for inspiration and activities – such as the innovative concrete paving at White City to the trial borehole for potential ground source heat pumps in Queen’s Lawn.
This will offer a new, open and structured way to develop, prioritise and enable potential collaborations between our operations supporting research and teaching, as well as our academic community supporting operations.

How to get involved
Opportunities for staff
We would like to invite colleagues to join our workshops to brainstorm potential themes and ideas for on-campus projects to develop, trial, demonstrate or showcase sustainability-related earlier-stage research projects and innovations. These workshops will be open to our academic and research colleagues across Imperial with our Property team to propose ideas, coordinated by the Sustainability Hub.
Opportunities for students
The Sandbox will include graduate and postgraduate student internships, offer potential sustainability topics for our Masters students, and offer opportunities for undergraduates through programmes such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme and StudentShapers, engaging with students as partners in Learning and Teaching.
Details to follow.
