Course overview

This course is designed for non-native English speakers who wish to develop greater confidence and effectiveness when using English in professional and commercial settings.

The course takes a functional approach, with each session organised around the kinds of activities commonly encountered in the workplace. Through active participation and practical exercises, the emphasis is on using English to achieve clear aims and objectives in real business situations.

Vocabulary and expression are developed through both function—such as making presentations, chairing meetings, or negotiating—and topic, including issues such as workplace behaviour, quality control, and professional performance.

Grammar is reviewed where it plays a particularly important role in the function or communication task explored during the session.

The topics outlined for the course are indicative, allowing the sessions to be adapted where possible to reflect the professional interests and needs of participants.
