This Hindi course is designed to expand your knowledge, understanding and skills in spoken Hindi, and also develop further basic skills in reading and writing the language.

It is aimed at those who have completed completed Hindi 1 (Beginners) Parts 1 and 2  at Imperial, or equivalent elesewhere (≈30 hours of study) within the past 9 months, and it builds on this experience. All sessions are delivered in a practical, enjoyable and engaging way.

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Talk about your abilities;
  • Express your wishes;
  • Talk about your holiday wishes;
  • Talk about your likes and dislikes;
  • Express what you/someone needs;
  • In the shop-ask for things you need;
  • Ask for the price of an item;
  • Read and write basic words in Hindi;
  • Write by listening.

Course Information

Your Tutor

Sabrina Aggarwal Osborne was born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh, the heartland of the Hindi language, in India. She graduated from Aligarh Muslim University, India, with a BA in Hindi and Sanskrit literature, having been awarded three university gold medals for academic excellence.

Sabrina has been teaching Hindi as foreign language for over 10 years at reputed institutes, colleges, universities and language centres in the UK. She uses audio/visual resources and activities in language teaching along with her own original teaching materials.

Her in-depth knowledge of the language as a native speaker and teaching experience with specially designed lessons make her lessons very enjoyable. Her cultural inputs and anecdotes provide a deeper understanding of her fascinating country - India.

Sabrina also teaches the Sanskrit language. Her research interests include contemporary Hindi in urban and rural settings and in Bollywood. She is also a proofreader for Hachette. Recently she reviewed the Hindi Grammar book for Routledge.

Late enrolment

It is possible to enrol on many of our adult education courses after the course has already started. For non-language courses this is subject entirely to agreement by the tutor. For language courses it is subject to agreement by the language coordinator conducting level assessment. If you want to join a course late do bear in mind there might be work you will need to catch up on, particularly in language courses.

Friends and Family Scheme

This course is eligible for allowing Imperial College students and staff to share their discount with their friends and family.

Enrolment Process

Web enrolment starts 1 March 2025

Enrolment and payment run through the Imperial College eStore. When enrolling:

  • Do check on the drop down menu above called "Course Fees and Rate Categories" to see if you are eligible for a discounted rate and also do make sure you select that rate when enrolling on the eStore
  • If you are a first-time eStore user you will need to create an account before enrolling. You can do this by entering an email address and password. This account can then be used for any future enrolments via the eStore.
