Who is this course for
This course is designed for British Sign Language (BSL) learners whose skills are beyond Level 1 but who are not yet ready to progress to Level 2. It is suitable for those who have completed a Level 1 BSL course (or equivalent) and would benefit from further structured practice to strengthen confidence, accuracy and fluency before moving on to more advanced examination.
Course overview
This course has a strong focus on developing your existing BSL skills. You will work on both receptive skills (understanding signed BSL) and productive skills (expressing yourself clearly in BSL). Through structured learning and guided practice, you will develop greater confidence in understanding signed conversations and producing clearer, more accurate signing.
You will practice translating from English into BSL, constructing grammatically correct BSL syntax and developing a stronger understanding of key linguistic features. These include vocabulary development, sentence structure use of space, facial expression, body movement and how meaning is conveyed visually in BSL.
By the end of the course, you will feel more confident using BSL beyond a beginner level and better prepared to progress to the next stage of your learning journey. This bridging course provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen your BSL foundations and develop clearer, more confident and more accurate communication.
