Who is this course for?

The course is suitable for those who have completed Japanese 1 (Beginners) on the after:hours programme or possess equivalent experience. If you are unsure if this course is for you, please contact us for a free language level check.

Course overview

This course aims to extend and consolidate your existing language skills in Japanese, developing further your knowledge of Japanese vocabulary and grammar. Your understanding of Hiragana scripts will be refined and you will also be introduced to reading and writing Katakana scripts.

Although the main focus of the course is on conversation, we cover basic grammar and extend it to a further stage of understanding.

Sessions are designed to be  accessible and engaging, encouraging you to build on your prior learning through practical and collaborative communicative tasks. The programme will depend in part on the specific group dynamics, with the tutor moderating the content depending on the development of skills across the whole group.

This course uses a textbook and other material to teach the course. Advice on which course textbook to buy will be given in the first class.
