Induction/Onboarding
  • Induct students into their research group, department and/or lab
  • Ensure students attends Imperial welcome and induction events and is aware of the support available to them across the department and university
  • Introduce students to key people locally and across the institution as needed. 
Health & Safety
  • Ensure all relevant risk assessments have taken place
  • Ensure students complete appropriate training to carry out their research safely. 
Student Research
  • Help students to plan their research
  • Provide students with feedback on their written work and/or presentations
  • Help them to progress their academic studies
  • Hold regular individual tutorials and research/lab group meetings
  • Work with student(s) to develop their research and professional skills
  • Ensure students have sufficient resources to implement the mutually agreed and viable research plan
  • Help students to resolve difficulties they encounter and/or direct them to other staff who can assist
Wellbeing
  • Build trustful environment where students feel safe, included and supported
  • Recognise signs of poor wellbeing and mental health in PGR students
  • Know what support is available and when/where to signpost/refer
Professional Development & Career Advice
  • Support students to develop their professional skills and signpost to relevant sources of training and development (e.g. ECRI)
  • Provide students with career advice, noting however that some students may not wish to pursue an academic career and that Imperial has a dedicated Careers Service and other career development support on this area through ECRI and your own department.
