Supervisors aim to get their students to be independent researchers.

Supervisors who draw on mentoring and coaching approaches will help students to cultivate their self-efficacy.

In this workshop you will review the benefits of these approaches and gain practice in enabling conversations with your PGR researchers.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be better able to:

  1. Recognise the importance and value of dialogic, collaborative supervision in today’s research environment
  2. Identify the four dimensions of self-efficacy
  3. Explain the core principles of a coaching approach and how these differ from mentoring
  4. Practice and evaluate active-listening techniques in a supervised triad

This course is open to Main, Co- and Assistant supervisors of doctoral researchers.
