About us

Established in 2011, the Centre for Health Policy (CHP) helps ensure that innovative, evidence-based health policies are developed, shared and adopted around the world.  We have policy strengths in data and cybersecurity, digital health and patient safety, but also work on a broader range of emerging policy areas.  

Part of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, CHP consists of a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in academia, data science, clinical practice and health policy. We leverage our team’s expertise and skills to conduct academically rigorous work that delivers actionable policy insights.  

How we work

CHP’s unique value proposition stems from the diversity and versatility of our team, which allows us to deliver the rigour of academia at the speed of a management consultancy. Our projects span from eight-week rapid reviews to multi-year projects.

These may be structured as: 

  • Consultancy work (typically 8+ weeks): we leverage quantitative and/or qualitative research to provide rapid policy insights to system leaders and decision-makers.
    • Example: rapid landscape review of cross-sector mobility in the medical sciences workforce, commissioned by the Academy of Medical Sciences. 
  • Commissioned policy work (typically 6+ months): we work with funders to identify policy areas that are lacking evidence for strategic decision-making. We carry out extensive research, speak to national and/or international experts, and translate findings into policy recommendations.  
    • Example: annual policy reports on the state of patient safety, commissioned by the charity Patient Safey Watch.
  • Funded research projects (typically 1+ years):  we conduct academic research projects independently or in collaboration with other academic centres to grow the knowledge base around key health policy issues.  
    • Example: evaluation of a large-language model (LLM)-enabled clinical decision support tool, funded by Roche.
  • Strategic partnerships (typically 2+ years): we partner with organisations to deliver multi-year programmes of work across key policy areas, with workplans being set and revised on an annual basis.  
    • Example: academic partners of the World Health Organization to deliver on the activities of the Global Patient Safety Collaborative since 2018. 

All projects are supported by people with lived experience of the issues we are researching, ensuring we can focus on what matters most to them.  

Our outputs are strategically tailored to the intended audience and are delivered in a variety of formats, including policy reports, academic papers, infographics and dashboards.  

Our network of national and international leaders allows us to effectively disseminate our findings, making our evidence-based insights available to decision-makers across the globe.  

We pride ourselves in developing long-lasting relationships with funders, who we work with repeatedly over the years. These include private companies, public sector bodies, charities, and international organisations.
