The Global Master of Public Health (GMPH) is a fully online, postgraduate taught programme based in the School of Public Health. As teaching and learning occurs entirely online and students do not attend campus regularly, getting insight on how they are progressing through modules is a challenge. To address this, GMPH modules are evaluated on a termly basis via mid-term and end of term module evaluation surveys, with an emphasis on dialogue between students and staff.

The mid-term surveys are implemented by the GMPH student representatives, who design all questions in Qualtrics and ask their classmates to complete the survey. They also collate and present results at Student Staff Liaison Committee meetings. This feedback acts as the basis for dialogue between staff and students, allowing module teams to adjust teaching strategies to address student needs during termtime, for example reviewing particularly challenging subject material or clarifying assessment requirements.

The end of term surveys are implemented by the education team. The team designed bespoke questions for the GMPH, which are applied across all modules. Student feedback from this survey is collated and discussed by the education team at module iteration, operations and exam board meetings. It also informs curricular and technical changes to be made before the module runs again in the next academic year.

The co-creation of the module evaluation surveys gives the education team insight on how well teaching is going in real time and facilitates student engagement by giving them autonomy to ask the questions they think are most important and encouraging them to share their concerns with teachers. It also facilitates dialogue with and timely action by module teams so that students can benefit directly from giving feedback.
