Suitable for those who have taken our 40-hour Spanish 1 (Beginners) course, or those possessing equivalent skills

This is a course aiming to consolidate and improve your listening and speaking skills at beginner level. This course will be ideal for current students taking our extensive Spanish 1 (Beginners) courses or for new students with an equivalent level (A1 level) who wish to revise and practise their communication skills before progressing to the next stage in their learning.

If you are new to our Spanish courses, choosing the right level is very important and you are advised to take our level-checking test prior to enrolment.

After submission, you will receive level advice from Ms Almudena Sanchez-Villen. You can also contact her directly if you have any queries about the course.

  • Talking about our daily activities;
  • Describing and locating places;
  • Ordering food and drink;
  • Likes and preferences;
  • Dealing with numbers.

Grammar Points:

  • The present tense;
  • Verbs ser/estar;
  • Verbs to express likes and dislikes;

Course Information

Your Tutor

Virtu Tomás Rodríguez is a highly experienced Spanish teacher. She has taught in a broad range of adult education contexts since 2002 (Internal House London, Community Education Lewisham, Waltham Forest College, Hampstead Garden Suburbs, University of the Arts London, City University, Morley College, City Lit, Imperial College) and has been a language trainer in the private sector, working for a vast variety of companies ranging from Google, BBC, Barclays, Shell to the Home Office. She has been a Teacher Trainer at International House for the IH CELTA Certificate for Modern Languages, the PTTLS and the Teaching City & Guilds Certificate at City Lit where she has also coordinated the Languages provision since 2012.

She holds a BA in Education (Granada University, Spain) and a BSc (Middlesex University). A keen educationalist always looking to expand her practice, she is currently pursuing an MA to further specialise in Spanish Teaching within different contexts.

Late enrolment

It is possible to enrol on many of our adult education courses after the course has already started. For non-language courses this is subject entirely to agreement by the tutor. For language courses it is subject to agreement by the language coordinator conducting level assessment. If you want to join a course late do bear in mind there might be work you will need to catch up on, particularly in language courses.

Friends and Family Scheme

This course is eligible for allowing Imperial College students and staff to share their discount with their friends and family.

Enrolment Process

Web enrolment starts 24 February 2025

Enrolment and payment run through the Imperial College eStore. When enrolling:

  • Do check on the drop down menu above called "Course Fees and Rate Categories" to see if you are eligible for a discounted rate and also do make sure you select that rate when enrolling on the eStore
  • If you are a first-time eStore user you will need to create an account before enrolling. You can do this by entering an email address and password. This account can then be used for any future enrolments via the eStore.
